The word “burnout” has a few different meanings depending on the context. Here are 5 other uses apart from stress, explained simply for learners of English:

  1. Mechanical failure
    “The car engine had a burnout and stopped working.”
    → When a machine or part (like a motor or fuse) stops working because it’s been used too much.
  2. Fire completely gone
    “After the forest fire, there was a complete burnout of the area.”
    → When something has burned until nothing is left.
  3. Light bulb burnout
    “The light doesn’t work. I think there’s a burnout.”
